German submarine

Some of my recent work was inspired by recently visited places connected with the Second World War, the first was a German submarine housed in its own museum at Birkenhead on the River Mersey.

They had on display, the  U534. In order to transport it there it was cut into sections. These are now displayed with protective glass at each of the intersections.
The interior of the U-boat was illuminated, highlighting the effects of the sea since 1944 on the internal workings of the craft.

Visually it was stunning and I couldn’t wait to translate both the visual image and the emotion into paint.
